Municipal Water Supply in Sanya, China
Sanya City in Hainan, China, has been facing challenges in ensuring a stable and high – quality water supply due to population growth and tourism development. The local water treatment plant introduced a reverse osmosis – based water treatment system.

The raw water, mainly sourced from rivers and reservoirs, first undergoes pretreatment such as sedimentation and filtration. Then, it enters the reverse osmosis system. The reverse osmosis membranes effectively remove various impurities, including dissolved salts, heavy metals, and organic pollutants. After treatment, the water quality has been significantly improved. The turbidity is reduced to less than 0.1 NTU, and the content of heavy metals such as lead and mercury is far below the national standard. The project has increased the city’s daily water supply capacity by 50,000 tons, ensuring a stable and high – quality water supply for urban residents and the tourism industry. The treated water not only meets the daily domestic water needs but also satisfies the high – standard water requirements of high – end hotels and resorts, promoting the sustainable development of Sanya’s economy and society.
